London secures major Medical and Life Science associations.

London expects record attendee numbers to high profile events

5 January 2015
ExCeL London and London & Partners have announced three major international association wins for the city.

The European Respiratory Society and Euroanaesthesia will both head to the venue in 2016 for the first time, while the European League against Rheumatism (EULAR) will return to ExCeL following its successful event in 2011.

London has also registered record-breaking delegate numbers for recent international congresses hosted: the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) saw more than 10,000 attendees, its highest ever attendance, at its April conference, and the European Society of Pathology saw a 23 per cent increase in attendance at its annual conference in September compared to 2013.

The European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA) and the European Society of Cornea and Ocular Surface Disease Specialists (EuCornea) also saw the largest ever gathering of eye specialists in London this year.

“London is a leading centre of excellence for medical and life sciences and this, combined with the draw of the capital for event delegates, has helped secure these fantastic new association wins for the capital," said Becky Graveney, head of associations at London & Partners.

James Rees, executive director of ExCeL London, added: “London continues to invest in its product and infrastructure and now, more than ever, is in a position to deliver the best possible delegate experience and value-for-money. We are committed to continuing our investment in the venue, in the build-up to the opening of our Crossrail station in 2019 and beyond."
