Marriott portfolio expected to surpass one million rooms

Marriott targets one million hotel rooms by the end of 2015

26 January 2015
Last week Marriott International revealed that it expects its portfolio of hotels either open or under development to surpass one million rooms by the end of 2015.

The brand, which currently has a record 240,000 new rooms in the pipeline, saw more than 46,000 rooms opened worldwide in 2014 alone. Last year Marriott signed agreements for more than 650 hotels (around 100,000 rooms), a signing pace of nearly two new hotel deals a day.

Already present in 80 countries, Marriott will expand its footprint to 100 destinations worldwide. In the United States, the group wishes to strengthen itself on secondary and tertiary markets, while it plans to double its presence in Asia. Strong growth is also expected in the Middle East, South America and Europe, particularly through its new brand, Moxy.

Tony Capuano, Marriott’s executive vice president and chief development officer, said: "Our success has been boosted by a number of factors, including our continental leadership structure that connects our local development teams with development partners and lenders, the continuity of our senior development team and the introduction of new brands, which accounted for nearly 40% of our new room openings this past year."

2015 is set to be an equally exciting and record-breaking year for the brand.
